I told my friends 3 seasons ago, when he was an Ajax player, that we at Tottenham should be going in for him and Stephan el Shaarawy. Alderweirald would be the perfect partner for Vertonghen as he is real quality, has pace and came read the game amazingly well.on top of which he and Jan are international team mates. At that time we could've got him on a free as he was coming to the end of his contract. now he's gonna cost a truck load and were gonna have to compete with teams in the champions league for his services. I only hope that getting him doesn't come at the expense of losing Jan the man in the process, or that not getting him is the catalyst for Jan the man leaving. And I still think stephan el shaarawy is a player we should be targeting also
Defender Toby Alderweireld will hold talks with Atletico Madrid over his future next week, with Southampton, Chelsea and Tottenham all understood to be interested in his permanent signing. The 26-year-old Belgium international, who enjoyed a successful loan spell at Southampton last season, will return to his parent club after duties with his country to discuss his next move. Sky sources understand Saints have first option to sign the defender but Atletico can alter that arrangement via a small payment and create an open market for the player, who has attracted the interest of a host of Premier League clubs.
Leyton Orient owner Francesco Becchetti wanted by Albanian authorities
Albanian authorities have issued an arrest warrant for the Leyton Orient owner Francesco Becchetti. Becchetti, who bought the club last summer and recently put it back up for sale, is accused of fraud-related offences connected to a failed hydro-electric scheme. The Albanian government claim the plan cost them tens of millions of euros and Becchetti faces up to 15 years in prison if the charges are proven. Orient set Becchetti back £4.4m in July 2014 and he presided over their relegation from Sky Bet League One at the end of the season, before deciding he wants to leave. Sky Sports News HQ understands the 48-year-old will only deal with serious buyers who are willing to take on the sizeable wage for the now League Two club.
Becchetti bought a 90% stake from previous owner Barry Hearn last summer with the option to buy the stadium, which he has not taken up. And the club is expected to fetch far less than the £4m he paid for it following an unsuccessful push for promotion to the Championship last season. Orient finished second bottom of League One after winning just 12 of their 46 games, nine points above bottom club Yeovil Town.
